I am a REAL Republican. Not a Bush Republican nor a Reagan Republican, but a Thomas Jefferson Republican and that is Thomas Jefferson before he became President because there is something that happens to Republicans when they become President, once in office they start acting like Democrats.
I voted for Nixon, Ford, Reagan and George H W Bush because I was young and stupid and I thought when these men said they were for less government, less government spending and a balanced budget, they meant it. How was I to know that these were only words they put forth to get elected then once they were elected they created more government, bigger government, and spent more money pushing us further and further away from a balanced budget. As an added incentive, Nixon said he would get us out of Vietnam but twice as many American solders were killed while he was President than were killed while LBJ was President so one can’t really believe what people who are running for office say. Obama ran on a “change” promise but as far as I can tell, now that he is in office, the only “change” is we now have a different President. We are still in Iraq, we are more and more in Afghanistan everyday so I am not sure where the change has occurred. And don't tell me we have to get Bin Laden. Bin Laden isn't the first person to attack American and elude our Army. Check out your history on Poncho Villa, he attacked America, killed Americans, and President Wilson sent Blackjack Pershing to kill him or bring him to justice and we failed, so this will not be the first or last time our mouths were bigger than our actions. We study history in school, but we don't seem to learn any lessons from it.
To be frank, I didn’t leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me. George W Bush was less a Republican than any in my life time. What fool would go on TV and talk down the economy, it was like lame duck Bush wanted to destroy our economy on his way out, maybe so in four years Obama would still be up to his armpits in Bush's troubles leaving the door open for a Republican come back. You don’t think Bush would be that cruel? Well one only has to real about his entire life to see just how spoiled he was. In his entire Presidency he talked up everything, nothing was bad then in September suddenly he turns 180 degrees and started talking down the economy, why? Certainly Americans can be that stupid, most can't remember past last Monday.
When I say I am a Jefferson “before he was President” Republican, I really mean it. Before Jefferson became President he believed we needed very little government in our lives, that government was actually a necessary evil, we needed it for our defense but if we gave it too much power it would trample our freedoms and liberties, which it has. Today’s government controls what you can watch on TV, what you can put into your body, in some areas of our country what you can put on your body, and through our public schools government controls what our children are taught. In Pre Jefferson President days, one could live in the US and grow Marijuana and use it if they wished, they were free to read what they wished, no one told them where they could build their home or how it must be built. I don’t support the use of drugs but government does so poorly what it does, I don’t think government has the right to be telling us what we can and can not put into our bodies. I don’t support abortion but again, government does so poorly what it does, I don’t believe we should give it power over women forcing them to have children that we are unwilling to take responsibility for ourselves. Don’t give me that “we must protect the children" crap, we bomb people, some who are pregnant mothers, so this isn’t about killing children, we killed a lot of them in WWII and since, that argument is worthless with me. And don’t tell me God is against abortion, he aborts children all the time, it is called miscarriages, and in the day of Joshua the Hebrew murdered every man, woman, child, and all their animals doing God's will as they destroyed Jericho. Clearly God has no problem with killing children. “For the children” is an argument people put forth to try to advance their agenda.
Government, be it local, state, or federal is evil and we need as little of it as possible, but if you are going to force government upon me, then it needs to do something for the good of all men. Build roads, provide clean water, provide free health care, if government is going to be forced upon us, then it must do something positive, otherwise get it out of our lives.
